Best, Most Popular, Most Important Films Directed by Women ( 201 items )
72 Views | 2.7 / 5 | Created 9 hours ago by gated
Some very important films that are missing include: The Taste of Others (2001), 35 Shots of Rum (2008), The Apple (1998), The Ascent (1977), Chaos (2001), Set Me Free (Emporte-moi)(1999), How I Killed My Father (2001), Innocence (2004), Fat Girl (2001), The Watermelon Woman (1996), The Blot (1921), Dance, Girl, Dance (1940), Entre Nous (1983), A Place Called Lovely (1991), Surname Viet Given Name Nam (1989), Working Girls (1986), News From Home (1977), Bad Girls Go To Hell (1965), The Cool World (1963), Outrage (1950), The Time We Killed (2004), Personal Velocity (2002), The Elegant Spanking (1995), History and Memory: For Akiko and Takashige (1991), Sink or Swim (1990), Damned If You Don't (1987), Who Killed Vincent Chin? (1987), Border Radio (1987), Tell Me a Riddle (1980), Old Boyfriends (1979), Chilly Scenes of Winter (1979), Dyketactics (1974), Wanda (1970), Rape (1969), Fuses (1967), Not Wanted (1949), First Comes Courage (1943), Christopher Strong (1933), Linda (1929), Too Wise Wives (1921), The Day I Will Never Forget (2002), I Could Read the Sky (1999), American Holocaust: When Its All Over I’ll Still Be Indian (2000), The Seashell and the Clergyman (1928), and Something New (1920). --------------------- I couldn't bring myself to include a few of the highest grossing films ever directed by women because they are just so awful and I think they are also very dated and will be less well liked with time (several have already greatly fallen in ratings). They include: Dr. Dolittle (1998), Step Up (2006), National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985), Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (2009), 27 Dresses (2008), Shark Tale (2004), Fifty Shades of Grey (2015), and What Women Want (2000). ------- The Proposal (2009), Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002), Look Who's Talking (1989), Look Who's Talking Too (1990), Deep Impact (1998), It's Complicated (2009), Wayne's World (1992) and the second two Bridget Jones films all barely made the list. They were all high grossing films and have large fanbases. While I don't think they are great films they are undeniably popular and successful within their genres and will probably continue to remain so with time. While all of these films are bad to just decent what they all demonstrate in common is the ability of female directors to make lowbrow films disliked by critics (or anyone with discerning taste) that still make tons of money. Studios take note, the ladies can sell out just as well as the gents can.

Disastrous Productions That Did Well at the Box Office ( 24 items )
196 Views | 3 / 5 | Created 1 day ago by gated
There are other playlists for films that did poorly at the box office but were later considered to be great films and films that were infamous box office bombs or flops. Many of the films with the most famously arduous and disastrous productions can be found on those lists. This list is for the minority of films that had famously difficult productions that ended up doing well at the box office. My other playlists.-----

There are many things wrong with society, there are series, movies and documentaries who show us, for we can change things once we understand what is wrong with society and therefore with us. For we do not need to be sheep, we do not want to be manipulated to think certain ways, we can think for ourselves, or at least we can try. Without going into the conspiracy theories, although in time there might be one added, I mostly want to add here shows who are entertaining, well that is my intention, lets see where it ends up.

Bad Actors Make Good ( 19 items )
359 Views | 2.7 / 5 | Created 4 days ago by gated
Every once in awhile an actor who is known for making many more bad and/or mediocre films than good ones will have a great performance. Whether it was being paired with a great director, a mid-life crisis that had them looking for a more meaningful film to star in, or a brief period of unexplained clarity, these are films where typically bad actors give one of the only, if not the only, great performances of their career. ------ I will indicate in a comment at the bottom of the list the bad actor/s making good for each film. My other playlists. -----
Television History ( 39 items )

General histories of television as well as documentaries and docu-dramas about iconic shows. Missing are: Color Adjustment (1991), God's Angry Man (1981), Speedy Delivery (2008), X-Rated: The TV They Tried to Ban (2005), Square Roots: The Story of SpongeBob SquarePants (2009), Six O'Clock News (1996), and the PBS documentaries series "Television" (1998). ------- I have no doubt that many academic papers and quite a few books have been written about the history of television and its influence on culture and society but there is a surprising lack of examination of the medium in film and television. Women's Rights, Struggles, and Achievements ( 103 items )
167 Views | 2.3 / 5 | Created 5 days ago by gated
Documentaries and docu-dramas. Clearly if there was a film for every significant achievement by a woman then there would be a virtually endless list of films. Instead the achievement part of the list is for films about women who achieved great things despite great opposition and/or were the first to achieve great things in areas that had been previously closed to them. ------- Missing are: For Americans Masters: Maya Angelou and Still I Rise (2016), Ella Fitzgerald: Something to Live For (1999), and The Women's List. ------- Also Missing: Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai (2008), The Stranger on Bergsunds Strand – The Story of Nelly Sachs (2003), Eine Liebe für den Frieden - Bertha von Suttner und Alfred Nobel (2014), Votes for Women (1912), No Greater Love (1952 film), Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women (2008), My Name Is Jody Williams: A Vermont Girl's Winding Path to the Nobel Peace Prize (2013), A Path Appears (2015), The Day I Will Never Forget (2002), Dare to Dream: The Story of the U.S. Women's Soccer Team (2005), Dolores (2017), Born with Curiosity: The Grace Hopper Story (2016), ‪Abortion: Ireland's Guilty Secret‬? (2015), When the Mountains Tremble (1983), Rigoberta Menchu- Daughter of the Maya (2016), A Sense Of Wonder (2010), The Power of One Voice (2015), American Experience: Rachel Carson (2017), A Quiet Inquisition (2014), Fast Women: The Ladies of Auto Racing (2004), Shirin Ebadi: A Simple Lawyer (2005), Portraits of a Lady (2008), No Woman No Cry (2010), Vessel (2014), Iraq: The Women’s Story (2006), 14 Women (2007), Not for Ourselves Alone: The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Susan B. Anthony (1999), Sisters of Selma (2006), American Experience: One Woman, One Vote (1995), American Experience: Ida B. Wells: A Passion for Justice (1998), Birthright: A War Story (2017), Whose Choice? (1990) License to Thrive: Title IX at 35 (2008), American Experience: Fly Girls (1999), Thank You, Mr. President: Helen Thomas at the White House (2008), Chisholm '72: Unbought & Unbossed (2004), and Makers: Women Who Make America (2013), --------- In recent years there have been a lot of films made about the struggles for women's rights in India. Most of them are not on this site but can be seen elsewhere online. -------- Many films dealing with a woman's right to choose can be found at ------- There are episodes on the achievements of women in many TV series such as American Experience, American Masters, Frontline, Vice, 60 minutes, Various other PBS series, various ESPN series, etc. -------- My other playlists. ---------

Masterpieces that Did Poorly at the Box Office ( 44 items )
457 Views | 2.3 / 5 | Created 6 days ago by gated
These movies did poorly at the box office either losing money or not making very much money relative to their cost. ------ Some of them were praised by critics from the beginning but most of them were only realized to be masterpieces later on. ------ Although a few of these films could qualify as cult films that alone would not qualify them to be on this list. All of these films are now considered to be cinema classics by most critics while not all cult films are so praised. ------ There are other films not on this list that did poorly at the box office but later found a fanbase (and aren't cult films) but this list is reserved for films generally recognized as being great. ------ It is amazing that several of the best films ever made are on this list. My other playlists. -----

Infamous Box Office Bombs and Flops ( 70 items )
473 Views | 2.3 / 5 | Created 1 week ago by gated
There is another playlist for films that did poorly at the box office but were later considered to be great films. There is some overlap. ------ First thing we need is a definition of terms. A box office bomb is film that loses a lot of money, relative to its budget, regardless of its critical reception and the number of people who see it. A box office flop is a film that is little seen at the box office, relative to expectations, due to its poor reception. Relative to its cost a flop fails to make much, if any, money due to its poor performance. In contrast to a bomb a flop might not actually lose money. However even if a flop doesn't lose money it also doesn't make much otherwise it wouldn't be a flop. Bombs are most defined by losing a lot of money and flops are most defined by their poor reception at the box office. Usually if a film loses a lot of money it is a bomb and not a flop. Due to a bomb's large budget they are typically seen by a lot of people at the box office even if not by enough to save them from being a bomb. A film that is both a flop and a bomb, that both lost a lot of money and that hardly anyone cared to see, is rare. If a film is both a bomb and a flop it is almost certainly (but not always) also a turkey. A turkey is simply a bad film, however much money it makes or loses or how many people see it is irrelevant to it being a turkey. ------- This list is for infamous box office bombs and flops. In addition to being a bomb and/or a flop they must also be infamous for additional reasons. -------- Such reasons could include being both a flop and/or a bomb as well as being a turkey, widely reported incidents of conflict and chaos during filmmaking, severe accidents and natural disasters occurring during filmmaking, going way way past the film's original budget, greatly hurting the reputation and/or careers of the actors and filmmakers involved, causing a studio to go bankrupt or significantly downsize or its stock to plummet or high level people to get fired or forcing it to merge or be bought out, causing the cancellation of future planned films, including controversial elements like racism, politics, religion, misogyny, whitewashing, violence, sex, gross historical inaccuracies, or gross cultural misrepresentations and/or appropriations that are seen as contributing to its downfall, causing studios to stay away from certain types of films or even entire film genres for years afterwards, periods of filming or post production that extend far far past their intended dates, receiving critical praise at the time of its release but failing at the box office due to not being liked by audiences or due to a failure of distribution and/or promotion, becoming a cult film later on, having large parts of the film reshot or cut, having a studio change the film at the protest of the filmmakers and/or actors, going through multiple directors during the course of filming, being prevented from distribution for a period of time due to legal disputes or bankruptcies, or just generally causing major shifts in the film industry. I have a separate list for documentaries about Native Americans and other indigenous peoples. ------ This list is for films starring Native Americans that are portraying Native Americans. Many of the films are also often made by Native Americans. ------ Any film from from any genre, besides documentaries, that portrays a positive image of Native Americans and/or a truthful depiction of Native American and indigenous issues and/or history may be included. Some docudramas may be on both lists. ------ Any film that engages in prejudices, stereotypes or gross historical inaccuracies are not included. ------There are also of course indigenous filmmakers in every possible position, from director on down, making films that do not involve native actors portraying natives or addressing native issues but those films aren't on this list. ------- Missing are: Shouting Secrets (2011), Empire of Dirt (2013), The Cherokee Word for Water (2013), Mekko (2015), The Coyote Way: Going Back Home (2017), More than Frybread (2012), Turquoise Rose (2007), Drunktown's Finest (2014), The Sun at Midnight (2016), Patu!
